Intensive Therapy

Canobolas Kids Health offers intensive therapy blocks as an alternative or addition to traditional therapy models. These intensive blocks involve daily 1 hour therapy sessions, with OT and/or physiotherapy,  with the option of 2 or 3 week blocks (Mon-Fri). We generally run our intensive blocks within school holiday periods to include children of all ages and fit in with busy schedules.

Each child’s therapy is uniquely tailored to their individual needs, with different therapy styles available from each of our therapists.

Equipment Prescription (Assistive Technology)

Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists have additional training and experience with equipment prescription for various needs. This includes specialised car seats, standing and walking frames, wheelchairs and positioning equipment.

DMI Therapy

A selection of our physiotherapists have completed the DMI level 1 training and can now offer DMI therapy in physiotherapy sessions.

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in therapy to treat children with motor delays by improving automatic postural responses and promoting progress towards developmental milestones.

Body Orthoses

A number of our therapists are trained in the prescription and management of various body orthotic devices that compliment traditional therapy and exercises. These include prefabricated orthoses such as TurtleBrace, SPIO suits, Spiral Skins and TheraTogs. We also work closely with Australian suppliers for more customised options including Korthotics Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMO) and Second Skin garments.

Orthotic Management

At Canobolas Kids Health, we have an in-depth understanding of orthotic prescription and management related to your child’s presentation and concerns. We liaise with local orthotist teams for all our orthotic needs. We can also assist with purchasing prefabricated Cascade orthotics.

Serial Casting

Our therapists are trained to offer serial casting for management of various presentations. This may include idiopathic toe walking or contractures caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy. It is a common procedure used to stretch and lengthen muscles. Shortened muscles may be due to a child’s limited movement, muscle tightness or muscle stiffness called spasticity.

If you think this is an option for your child, feel free to discuss with one of our therapists.

Orthopaedic Casting

Our physiotherapists can provide waterproof casts to help manage your fractures. These casts are 100% waterproof, meaning you can shower, take a bath or even go swimming with them on. However, we can’t manage all fractures, to see if we can help you give us a call today.

Running Assessment

Most running injuries are due to weakness or tightness in certain structures and suboptimal biomechanics, or running technique. This causes certain structures to be overloaded and leads to injury. We complete comprehensive running assessments with children and adolescents that involve assessing strength, range of movement and a biomechanical video analysis of your running. With this information we can determine the cause of your child’s running injury, develop a rehab program, running technique changes and a return to run plan to get your child back on the track injury free.

Conservative management of ACL Injuries

Did you know Australia has the highest rates of ACL repairs in the world! This means that your child is likely to automatically be recommended for a surgery to repair their torn ACL. In children and adolescents this isn’t always the best option. The latest research recommends that surgical ACL repair should only be considered in children in certain circumstances, if you would like to discuss your management options make an appointment with one of our physiotherapists today.

Injury Prevention

Our Physiotherapists are passionate about helping reduce the rates of injury in our children. We have extensive knowledge in various injury prevention programs such as the Netball KNEE program, Fifa 11+ and AFL Footy First program. These programs have been shown to significantly reduce injuries in sports if completed regularly. We can also complete biomechanical assessments to determine if your child is at increased risk of injuries.
